Meditation Garden

A place of peace, reflection, and final rest.

The Meditation Garden at Graceland was one of Elvis's favorite places, a serene sanctuary he created for quiet contemplation. Inspired by the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in California, which he often visited, Elvis wanted a similar peaceful retreat at his own home. Designed by architect Bernard Grenadier, the garden features a circular pergola and a tranquil fountain at its center.

A Final Resting Place

Originally, the garden was not intended to be a burial site. However, after an attempt to steal Elvis's body from its original resting place at Forest Hill Cemetery, his remains, along with those of his mother, Gladys, were moved to the Meditation Garden in 1977 for security.

Today, the garden serves as the final resting place for the Presley family. Visitors can pay their respects to Elvis, his parents Vernon and Gladys, and his grandmother Minnie Mae. More recently, his daughter Lisa Marie, and his grandson Benjamin Keough were also laid to rest here. A small stone also memorializes Elvis's stillborn twin brother, Jesse Garon, making it a hallowed space for fans from around the world.

Visitor Information

Fans wishing to pay their respects can visit the Meditation Garden free of charge during the daily walk-up hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This provides a quiet time for reflection before the official tours begin.

As the garden is a final resting place, all visitors are asked to show respect and maintain a quiet, reverent atmosphere. The Meditation Garden is the final stop on the Graceland mansion tour, but the morning walk-up is a special opportunity for fans to visit the gravesites separately.
